Who We Are

A Chapter Built on Service and the Open Road

The American Legion Riders bring together eligible members of the American Legion Family who share two things: a love of motorcycling and a commitment to veterans, their families, youth, and our community.

Chapter #443 rides out of Sanford, Michigan, based at Sanford American Legion Post #443. We ride for causes, we show up for our neighbors, and we look after one another — on the road and off it. New riders, passengers, and members who simply want to help are all welcome.

Mission Moment

Escorting a Tank Home to Post #443

One of the most unforgettable rides this chapter has done: leading the escort of a Vietnam-era M60 Patton tank to the Sanford American Legion Post #443 for permanent display.

“We weren’t just escorting a piece of military equipment; we were escorting history.”
— Chaplain Charlie, Thunder Roads Michigan Magazine, August 2026

Riders gathered before sunrise at Valley Plaza in Midland, then rode south to Burton, where Fisher Sand & Gravel helped load more than fifty tons of American military history. The convoy rolled north toward Sanford with people lining roadsides, bridges, and overpasses along the way.

For a little while, political divisions disappeared. Drivers, families, and children simply saw veterans, motorcycles, American flags, and a Vietnam-era tank making its way home.

Miles With a Mission

Every Mile We Ride Has a Reason Behind It

Charity rides, toy drives, honor details, and fundraisers — the miles add up, and so does the impact. Our charitable work is where the chapter's purpose shows up most clearly.

Teddy Bear Run

A ride with heart — collecting new stuffed animals that bring comfort to children during some of their hardest days.

Toyz For Kidz

Riders, families, and community partners gathering toys so local kids wake up to something to smile about.

Veteran & Family Assistance

Standing behind veterans and their families with a helping hand, a ride, and a connection to the right resources.

Community Service & Fundraisers

Honor details, parades, Post events, and fundraisers that keep our neighbors and our programs strong.
